TERMITE BAIT STATION SYSTEMS
Family Friendly Carpet Cleaning & Pest Control have completed an in-depth training program and have been accredited as Authorised Prefered Operators to supply and install the EXTERRA Termite Baiting System.
The Exterra Termite Interception and Baiting System is regarded as the worlds most effective Termite Monitoring and Baiting System. It is designed to locate and eliminate the Termite colony or colonies in the vicinity of or attacking your home.
Specially designed Exterra Monitoring Stations are placed at carefully selected points in the ground around the perimeter of your home. Each Exterra Station contains pieces of non-toxic timber that termites are known to prefer to eat and are installed where foraging termites are able to easily find. The stations are inspected regularly and when termites have been detected, the bait, called Requiem, is then introduced without disturbing the termites. This bait contains Alpha cellulose which is the termite’s favorite food and Requiem the active ingredient which kills the colony.
Although the Requiem Termite Bait can take several months to completely eliminate a termite colony, it also interrupts a termite’s ability to consume wood; this drastically reduces the rate of wood consumption of the colony within six to eight weeks. Termites have an exterior skeleton, referred to as an exoskeleton. As they grow, termites must shed their exoskeleton to form a new replacement exoskeleton. This exoskeleton replacement process is called molting and occurs approximately every two months. A failure to complete the molting process is lethal to termites. The toxicant contained in Requiem Termite Bait prevents termites growing this new exoskeleton and they die.
If termites are actively attacking your home, these termites can often be dealt with using Above-ground Stations in combination with In-ground Stations. Exterra Above-ground Stations can be invaluable because they allow some termite problems to be dealt with more quickly, right at the point of termite attack. This can mean a significant decrease in the time between Exterra System installation and colony elimination.
The amount of Requiem needed to completely fill one Exterra Station contains less than one gram of toxicant which, in its pure, concentrated form it is less toxic than table salt. Requiem only has an action against insects with exoskeletons. Although Requiem can eliminate all the termite colonies under and around a building, the previously occupied colonies may be invaded by new termite colonies. This is why it is recommended that the interception and baiting process be continued at your building even after the active termite colonies are eliminated. Exterra’s greatest advantage compared to chemical barriers is its ability to eliminate the actual source of your termite problem, the termite colony itself.

A few tips on Termite Prevention and what you can do to help reduce your risk of Termite Infestation :
- Termites will require a ready water supply so find and repair any water leaks you may have inside or outside of your home, such as leaking hoses, drains and pipes. Direct run off away from the house.
- Make sure the sub-floor area of your house has good cross-floor ventilation, drainage and access for a Termite Inspection
- Keep your home well ventilated, including the attic and underneath the house if you live on stumps. This can help to prevent moisture.
- Do not use untreated timbers for garden beds or retaining walls as they may attract termites.
- Store firewood or any building materials a good distance from your house. Clear any dead trees or old wood stumps from your yard as any wood that touches the ground is highly likely to be discovered by termites.
- Wood mulch, damp garden beds and ponds are all attractive to termites – if you live in a high risk area consider termites when planning landscaping.
- Ensure that food sources such as branches, wooden ladders and so on, aren’t left leaning against your house.
- Check your foundations for cracks and other termite entry points and patch where necessary.
- Do not allow garden beds or paving to cover over weep holes or the external edge of your concrete slab and always allow at least a 50mm inspection zone from the top of the slab.
- Ensure that any fences, verandas, ferneries, etc that join onto your home are designed so as to prevent termite entry and do not provide a bridge for the termites to by-pass any termite barrier you have in place
- Have your house regularly inspected for termites and check yourself for any flooring that feels ‘soft’ or solid wood work that sounds hollow when tapped. The earlier termites are detected, the better.
